Racial Justice
Recent years have highlighted the perennial challenge of achieving racial justice in US society and more globally. Racial justice seeks to effect institutional change in providing equality of access, opportunities, and outcomes irrespective of phenotypical classifications and categories.
These classifications and categories of physical difference are the result of scientific, economic, political, and legal histories that normalize unequal life chances among groups. In this important respect, eliminating health disparities among racialized groups constitute a measurable goal toward realizing racial justice.
As an institution, UCSC understands that racial and medical justice are inseparable, supporting research among its faculty aimed to effect robust changes in public policy and health care delivery.
