Agroecology

Agroecology is the integrative study of the entire food system, encompassing ecological, economic and social dimensions. In order to create an ecologically sound, economically viable, and socially just food system, agroecology must integrate science and research, technology and practices, indigenous knowledge, and movements for social change.

Agroecology calls for a transdisciplinary, participatory, action-oriented, and politically-engaged transformation of the food system and is strongly rooted in peasant and food sovereignty movements across the world.

UCSC faculty, staff, and students, within our Center for Agroecology (formerly known as CASFS) and across campus are engaged in scholarship, experiential education, and practice in nearly all of these areas of agroecology.
